We visited Bluebells Cakery for morning tea, as it has a growing reputation for pretty and delicious baking.

The dainty store is filled with sweet things and although it’s not in a prominent position on the main road, parking right outside makes it convenient. With lolly bags sitting on a bright blue shelf, jars of marshmallows, colourful straws and paper garlands hanging  on the walls, the decor was reminiscent of a childhood party.

We sat down with our cupcakes and coffee but given the paper cups and intimate space, we probably should have got take-away. In our opinion, it’s not an ideal spot if you’re after a lengthy chat with a friend.

However the cupcakes are the best we’ve tried. Rachel had the vanilla with baby-blue icing and I had the rapsberry-chocolate combo. The cake tastes homemade and moist, and the icing on top is fluffy and flavoursome. Claudia was at home studying so we picked her a lemon cupcake which was filled with oozy lemon curd, and chose a chocolate-lamington cupcake for Laura to have after school.

They do beautiful cakes to order and also have a stall at the La Cigale market in Parnell on the weekends.

Worth a visit for the cupcakes.
