Back from our brief hiatus over Christmas and New Years, we picked the newly opened St. Heliers Bay Cafe & Bistro to start off the year.

It has a stylish beach-resort vibe, with sea-green wall tiles, large woven light fittings and wide, sliding windows opening onto Tamaki drive. Although it looks busy it runs very efficiently, with a marble-top bar to wait at until a table is free.

Today we didn’t have to wait for a table so got straight into ordering our coffees and breakfast. Rachel had the eggs benedict on 5-grain with asparagus, and I had the herb and crab scrambled eggs. The flavours were terrific and we both thought our meals were excellent.

What we’ve noticed after visiting a few times is that the service is impeccable. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left they were attentive, knowledgable and friendly. Hopefully it stays this way!

We’re very impressed with this one and think it’s a great addition to the area for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can grab an ice-cream or choose from a selection of sandwiches and cakes to take-away too. Highly recommend a visit.
