Today for an early lunch, Laura and I went down to the Britomart Pavilions to try out Ortolana, which is a casual bistro and a relatively recent addition to the area.

From the outside, it looks like a tropical, earthy retreat in the heart of a concrete jungle. We loved the design of this space. With a glass roof, outdoor seating nestled amongst potted plants and growing vines, and welcoming interiors in beige and caramel, it’s a very peaceful spot (the cushions inside are exceptionally comfy too).

We ordered coffees to begin with and were also served with sparkling waters. The menu is a little cryptic, but the staff are very knowledgable and can help you with any ingredients you’re not quite sure of. Laura ordered the chitarra pasta with zucchini, toasted almonds, mint and parmesan butter. She thought it was the perfect size and that the flavours worked well together. I had the chicken cotoletta, which was basically chicken in breadcrumbs with a divine sauce and black olives. We also had a ‘gypsy’ side salad, which was a mix of seasonal ingredients and also came with a delicious dressing.

It wasn’t overly busy when we visited, and the service was very attentive and friendly. Clean, fresh and beautiful, we really enjoyed Ortolana and would highly recommend it!
