This morning Laura and I headed to ‘Bambina’ for brunch after a morning walk. It’s a quintessential Ponsonby cafe, busy with quiet couples enjoying the newspaper, to bubbly kids out for a morning treat with their parents. All seem to enjoy its casual feel, straightforward menu and quality food.
It was hassle free getting a park outside and when we walked in around mid-morning, there were several tables available. We like their take on a modern cafe, with high ceilings, mirrored walls, tall glass windows and a neutral colour palette.
Laura and I both ordered latte bowls and thought the coffee was very good. For our meals, I chose scrambled eggs on grain with a side of mushrooms and avocado, and Laura picked the toasted muesli with yoghurt and fruit. Both were satisfying and fresh dishes, although we experienced a bit of food-envy when we saw the impressively thick corn fritters with bacon, and hotcakes with fruit, served at the table next to us. Must tries for next time.
To take-away from their counter display of sweet and savoury bites, we bought a white-chocolate covered banana cake and a gluten-free hummingbird cake.
Overall, we really enjoyed Bambina and would definitely visit again! It’s clean and stylish, the food is tasty, and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
