Last weekend Charlotte and I visited The Botanist for breakfast after having been many times before, for coffee, juices and lunch. On further consideration, we decided that more cafes should take a leaf out of this cafe’s book and combine with a florist – not only will their atmosphere permeate with a stunning, floral bouquet, but will also be lit up by vibrant, fresh flowers.
We like the earthy interior tones and how this contrasts the highlighter-yellow, painted pipe that runs along the ceiling and the fluoro paint on their outdoor seating.
Off the menu, we ordered the house made muesli with poached rhubarb and yoghurt ($10.50) and the sweet waffle with lemon and kaffir lime curd, cardamom yoghurt and coconut ($18.50). The muesli was on the sweet side but very flavoursome and tasty. Unfortunately, the waffle was disappointing as it was slight and swimming in toppings (far from the cripsy, stacked delicacy that we envisioned). Suffering from food envy on inspection of the meals delivered to our neighbours, we decided we’d definitely try a savoury option next time – the cooked breakfasts looked amazing. Our coffees were, however, excellent.
If you’re looking for an easy lunch, each day healthy salads, freshly made wraps, pizzas and other goodies adorn the counter top. And worth noting is that their outdoor tables capture the midday sun perfectly, making for an ideal lunchtime location.
Clearly a bit hit and miss with the menu, but it is a clean, modern space with beautiful flowers and great coffee. We’ll be back (but opting for eggs)!
