We are always keen to try out new places in our ever-sprawling city, so Claudia and Laura headed to Woodworks in Avondale recently for lunch. It’s a relatively new spot offering breakfast and a full day bistro menu, in addition to takeaway pizzas.
The cafe is a large, spacious area with plenty of natural lighting, which is great if you’re with a larger group or kids. The decor is simple, with features being the glossy wooden floors, chairs you’d find in an old school classroom and green ferns and ivy cascading from the ceiling. There is also free car parking and an outdoor seating area where you can make the most of a crisp morning or sunny afternoon.
In regard to the menu, you won’t find it online to peruse before your visit because it changes with the season. However, you can guarantee you’ll find something on it that takes your fancy. You can order your traditional brunch fare of eggs and sides, or something more creative like crumpets, breakfast bruschetta, a croque monsieur or spicy scrambled eggs. Woodworks also sell fresh “Cocoloco coconut” drinks, which are ideal for a pick-me-up come Saturday or Sunday morning.
On their visit, Laura ordered the vibrant green-pea falafel and spiced aubergine salad with labneh from the lunch menu, while Claudia chose the warm tapioca and chia seed coconut pudding from the breakfast menu. Claudia found the pudding runnier than she expected, however, the savor of poached rhubarb, orange and honey-toasted nuts was delicious. Rachel and Charlotte have also been here for brunch and give it the thumbs up too.
Overall, the verdict is that Woodworks is worth visiting if you’re in the area or are keen to try out somewhere new!
